UCLA professor calls out university for use of Jackie Robinson Stadium in protester detainment
After first finding, and confirming, a tweet from a UCLA professor, I broke the news that LA police officers were using Jackie Robinson Stadium to detain people protesting against racial injustice. I reached out to the UCLA professor, along with other faculty who were involved in the situation, and also reached out to a UCLA spokesperson for comment as well. I was not only able to confirm details of the incident, but also beat The LA Times, The Orange County Register’s competitor paper, to the story. A larger follow-up to the story, which I co-bylined with news reporters, ran A1 in the paper a day later.
